Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a clear aligner system that gradually straightens your teeth. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign doesn't require brackets or wires, and the trays can be removed to eat, brush, and floss.

Most Invisalign patients wear each set of trays for 1-3 weeks; these trays incrementally shift your teeth until they are properly aligned. The full Invisalign treatment plan usually takes about the same amount of time as traditional braces.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

Invisalign works well for most bite and misalignment issues, but not everyone is a candidate. Patients with minor crowding or spacing issues, including crooked, overlapped, or gapped teeth, typically benefit the most from Invisalign.

If you have major bite issues, you may not be a candidate; however, the best way to know if Invisalign can work for you is to schedule a consultation at Dental Made Easy.

What is the Invisalign process like?

If your dentist decides you’re a good fit for Invisalign, they’ll take impressions of your teeth and gums. They send these to a lab, where 3D computer imaging technology creates a treatment plan for improving your smile and designs a series of custom aligners to reposition your teeth.

You’ll wear the Invisalign trays for about 22 hours each day, and you’ll have periodic check-ins with your dentist to ensure your treatment plan is working.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign has several key benefits. Some of the most compelling advantages are:

  • Healthier teeth and gums: Swollen, red gums are often the result of crowded or widely spaced teeth. When your teeth are properly aligned, it helps your gums fit more securely around the teeth and defend against periodontal problems.
  • Easier cleaning: One of the biggest challenges of having braces is removing food that gets trapped in the brackets and wires. Dirty braces can lead to plaque buildup and eventually tooth decay. With Invisalign, the trays are removable, so it’s easy to continue brushing and flossing your teeth the way you normally do.
  • Overall health: The health of your teeth and gums impacts your overall health. Studies by the American Dental Association have shown that oral infections can lead to other severe ailments such as heart disease, stroke, pneumonia, and diabetes. Invisalign makes daily oral hygiene easier, reducing the risk of potential problems.
